Black & Blue Butterfly Wing Earrings, Morpho Achilles Fagardi Butterfly
I made these real butterfly wing earrings with the wings of the species morpho achilles fagardi found in Peru and Costa Rica. It is a black butterfly with an iridescent blue stripe that flashes bright as it moves when light touches the scales of this lovely butterfly. I laminated the wings with a special process to avoid burning them. They are accented with black spinel beads and hung on surgical steel shepherd hook ear wires.

Handcrafted by me in my London Ontario Canada studio. Though my pieces are watertight, they are not 100% waterproof so care should be taken to not allow these to get wet.
Butterflies & Insects used in my pieces have been sustainably raised and bred on insect farms globally and play an important role in Conservation programs. Many governments and conservation programs (WWF & Nature Canada) teach sustainable practices of raising insects for economic purposes for livelihood rather than jobs that destroy rainforests such as slash and burn agricultural farming and logging. It is important to support such conservation programs that teach these sustainable economic alternatives.
