Purple Emperor Butterfly Figurine, Real Butterfly Statue
This glass art figurine has been created using the real butterfly wings of a female Apatura iris butterfly, aka the purple emperor, though the female lack the purple flashing that the males of this species have spotted swallowtail butterfly. Set on a twisted soldered copper wire that is looped to represent the flight of this butterfly and set into a sealed stained wood base. These look great on a shelf or mantelpiece or tucked into a grouping of plants.

Handcrafted by me in my London Ontario Canada studio. Though my pieces are watertight, they are not 100% waterproof so care should be taken to not allow these to get wet.
Butterflies & Insects used in my pieces have been sustainably raised and bred on insect farms globally and play an important role in Conservation programs. Many governments and conservation programs (WWF & Nature Canada) teach sustainable practices of raising insects for economic purposes for livelihood rather than jobs that destroy rainforests such as slash-and-burn agricultural farming and logging. It is important to support such conservation programs that teach these sustainable economic alternatives.
