Morpho Sulkowskyi Butterfly Wing Earrings, Real Lavendar Butterfly Earrings
These earrings are made with beautifully iridisecent lavender wings of a morpho sulkowskyi butterfly, a neotropical butterfly from Columbia, Equador, & Peru. Repurposed, this naturally expired butterfly has been purchased from a licensed supplier in Ontario Canada. They are made with Wings layered between two pieces plastic laminate to protect it. At the top of the wing there are faceted smoky swarovski crystal beads. Set on surgical steel ear wires.
Handcrafted by me in my London Ontario Canada studio. Though my pieces are watertight, they are not 100% waterproof so care should be taken to not allow these to get wet.
Butterflies & Insects used in my pieces have been sustainably raised and bred on insect farms globally and play an important role in Conservation programs. Many governments and conservation programs (WWF & Nature Canada) teach sustainable practices of raising insects for economic purposes for livelihood rather than jobs that destroy rainforests such as slash and burn agricultural farming and logging. It is important to support such conservation programs that teach these sustainable economic alternatives.
